But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night
Psalm 1:2

What is the movie that you can watch over and over again?

Neighborly - Daily Devotional

To get the Daily Devotionals delivered to you every morning, text ‘dailydevotional’ to 97000.

  1. In the 7/28/22 entry, Song of Celebration, Pastor Pam shares in Psalm 76 how Asaph, battles looming, faced adversity by singing praises to God. She shared one of her favorite worship songs, and encouraged us to memorize a praise song and sing it back to God. What song best describes how you want God to show up and fight your battles?

  2. In the 7/30/22 entry, Chazak, Pastor Pam again shares from Psalm 78 where Asaph retells the history of what God had done for Israel. What has God done in your life? Write these things down in a journal or in your Bible. When you feel doubt or uncertainty creep in, what example of God’s faithfulness can you pull from your library of remembrance? Now what is your part in your current situation?

Sermon Questions

Scriptures: Psalm 1:1-3

  1. What impacted or challenged you in today’s message?

  2. Like the longings of the characters in the movie, describe a time when you were counting on finding happiness somewhere else. What did you experience along the way? Did it pay off like you hoped - why or why not?

  3. When you ask yourself what would make you happy, how is your definition of happiness different from God’s? What are the things you need to change to be more in line with God’s definition?

  4. Focused - Read Psalm 1:1. This verse encourages us to take inventory of the distractions that are around us; namely, who we walk with is who we will stand and sit with. Who (or what) in your life pulls you away from Jesus? Why do you think it is such a fight for you to stay focused on Jesus?

  5. Filled - Read Psalm 1:2. In your quest for happiness, what are you filling your eyes and mind with? What power have some of these things had over your heart and soul? What is an example of how God’s Word was a rejuvenating source when you felt dry?

  6. Fruitful - Read Psalm 1:3. Pastor Sean said the end goal is to be fruitful. What did he mean? In your quest for happiness, how do you make sense of the statement that trees don’t get to choose where they are planted? What does it look like to be a fruit-bearing person right where you are at?

  7. Pastor Sean challenged us to leave a legacy - to share the fruit of Jesus Christ beyond our backyards. As you ride this escalator of growth - Focused, Filled, Fruitful - what do you think God is setting you up to do for His Kingdom?

Pray

Please pray over the outreach projects that have been highlighted by our kids at The Church at RB this summer. Stemming from VBS 2022, kids in our church have been encouraged to do something to help neighbors in our community - to be more like Jesus. And you can too! If you haven’t seen the videos (5 in total), we have three up so far on our website: Kidz Run the World, Alabaster Jar Project, Youth Assistance Coalition.

“And the King will say, 'I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me! '”

“And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me. '”
