Small Groups

Cultivating Intimacy with Christ and Each Other
Here at The Church at Rancho Bernardo, we make a BIG deal about small groups. Small groups provide the perfect environment for building close friendships with other people who attend CRB. On different nights of the week, in homes throughout our community and here at the church, people are getting together to study, to share, and grow in their relationship with God. Some CRB small groups use sermon-based, no-homework discussion questions, some study a book of the Bible and some choose a book to read and discuss. Some are focused for couples, some for singles, and some specifically for men, women and young adults. If you’re looking for a group to join, we’re here to help. Contact Sue Meissner, Director of Small Groups, for more info!

 COMING THIS FALL!
AN ALL-CHURCH COMMUNITY EXPERIENCE - Oct 3 through November 7
The Me I Want to Be - a book study by John Ortberg

Join your CRB family as together we explore a breakthrough concept in spiritual development in a six-week study of The Me I Want to Be by John Ortberg, In this all-church study you will understand better that your life is not your project - your life is God’s project. God’s desire is that you become the best version of you that you can!  The study will include an introduction to an innovative spiritual growth tool called the Monvee system. New small groups will be formed for this 6-week study!

Q. How can I be a part of the All-Church study?
A. We have copies of The Me I Want to Be right here at CRB for $15. You can buy yours in the Atrium before or after any worship service, starting Labor Day weekend. The official start of the study is the week of Oct. 3.

 Q. Must I be in a small group to participate?
A. A small group study is a great way to read this book and explore the concepts out loud with other people but it is not required.

Q. How can I join a The Me I Want to Be small group?
A. Sign up in the Atrium starting Labor Day Weekend before or after services or contact Sue Meissner at sue@thechurchatrb.org. We will make every effort to find a small group for you that meets the night of the week that is best for you.

Q. Is the book appropriate for teens and pre-teens?
A. Yes! If you would like to study the book as a family, you can be your own small group! Or maybe you can combine with another family with kids and meet together once a week just like other “official” small groups. If this interests you, just email Sue Meissner at sue@thechurchatrb.org for a copy of the leader’s guide.

Q. Do I have to sign up for Monvee to be a part of this study?
A. Monvee is a great follow-on tool to The Me I Want to Be but it is optional. If you are undecided, just contact us here at the church and we can help you make a decision that is right for you.

Q. What does Monvee do, exactly?
A. The Monvee system discovers through your responses to questions about you how you learn best and then makes recommendations to you to help you grow in your faith and knowledge of God and the Word, including recommendations for programs and ministries specific to CRB. We don’t all learn the same way, but we all need to learn. So we share the same need, but we don’t share the same path to get there.  You learn more about Monvee right here: http://monvee.com

“NO HOMEWORK” SERMON-BASED SMALL GROUPS

Living The BookThe curriculum for many Small Groups is sermon based. This means that these groups devote their discussion time to digging deeper into the information from that weekend's message. Find the Sermon Notes and Small Group Questions in your bulletin weekly. Each lesson will contain the following elements:

Response to the Sermon - Each week there will be an opportunity for individuals to share what impacted them in a personal way. The Story of Your Life - Each week there will be a question that gives people an opportunity to share how God has worked the principle of the week’s message into their personal lives. Digging Deeper - The group will be asked to look up passages that relate to the week’s topic. These may be verses that were referenced in the study or they may be parallel passages. Application - Each week the participants will have the opportunity to discuss how the truth they have discussed can be applied to everyday life.

"For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you
and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom
and understanding.  And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the
Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work,
growing in the knowledge of God" (Colossians 1:9-10).
